Hi I am 24 and live in Hungary, the age of consent hear is 14. I currently have a 15 year old gf. But some people I meet from the States think I am a freak and a pedophile, Question When will the American's learn to be tolerant and accept other culture and norms. Why are they so stupid? I am NOT breaking the law or anything

Sorry to say, but we just don't understand the culture. Laws are Laws and if you are not breaking them, then really why would you care what other people think, unless you feel it is morally wrong.

It is hard for us to tolerate this behavior when over here in the U.S. your girlfriend is considered a child. To us, it is the same as you dating a 10-year-old. Understand why it is disgusting to us?

You many not be breaking your law in your country, but you would in the US - and at your age, why are you cruising around 15 year old kids anyway? It raises questions as to why you need to date someone 9 years younger than you, and not as worldly. Legal != morally acceptable

because most 15 year-old don't know what they want. And a 24 year old can easily persuade them. teenagers are VERY gullible and anyone who takes advantage of a gullible person (like babies, old people and teens) are considered creeps. If you are 24 and are hanging out with a15 year-old it makes you appear very immature. And not capable of any future success in life.

I agree. They're against anyone under 18 dating anyone over 18 but not against someone that's 18 dating a 78 year old. They think that once you hit the magic age of 18 then you automatically know all there is to know. It's kind of funny really. They will never learn to accept these things though, just like you will never learn to accept their ideas of what's right and wrong. If you're happy with her and not using her or anything, then stay with her and ignore what Americans think.

Well don't do it here and it won't be an issue. I would have a huge problem with my teenage daughter going out with a 24 year old man. There's not an equivalence in interests, intelligence, maturity, things in common or life experience. It's not a level playing field and sets off a red flag for me. I'm not saying it never happens when a man in his mid-20s falls head overheals in love with someone that age, get married and stay together. But if you're generally physicially attracted to 15 year old children, yes it's something to be concerned about. Is it the young face and body that interests you? Young women of 18 or 20 have skin just as smooth and eyes just as young. Why 15? Sorry, but that's still a child, despite the body she's got or her efforts to look older.

Well the age of consent here in Britain is 16, I don't know about America, but you know what? If a 24 year old here was going out with a 16 year old - even though the law couldn't touch him - he would still be seen to be a paedophile, by me, by the girl's parents, by society, by everyone except sadly the naive girl herself. Now, when a particular person is EMOTIONALLY read to have sex, that is extremely variable, some may be ready by 12 some may not be ready even at 18. The reason why the age of consent is much lower in Europe is because MOST European teens mature at a much younger age, no question! Recently, someone suggested on yahoo answers that young teens (11, 12, 13 yo) should be given much more homework and be forced to do more choirs, etc. Many said that it was "wrong" and "immoral" because children of that age should still be enjoying there child hood and playing with dolls, I was like "WTF? stupid idiots!" No wonder American's have no concept of history, geography, etc. If anything, what I would like parents to understand is not to look at the age of the child when it comes to dating, sex, etc. but their LEVEL OF MATURITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Something that parents in the US, unfortunately, simply can not do!
