Opencast Lignite Mining in Hungary
Mátrai Eromu (Matra Power Plant) runs two opencast mines to supply 8.5 million tons of lignite per year for the continuous operation of its 950-MW power plant, the largest of its kind in Hungary. The plant meets over 15% of the energy demand of Hungary.
