A premium quality dog food except for the popular ones

A premium quality dog food except for the popular ones?
Whatever dog food brand is over-advertized (Pedigree, Purina, Hills, etc) is usually the most over-processed and the worst for any dog. I live in Eastern Europe, Hungary. Do you know any good dog food brand if not the best in your opinion to suggest? I had a dog and gave him "Nutro", a Canadian dog food which was supposed to have "real" ingredients inside but he died young, he was just 9 years old. He was a small breed and was supposed to live till 14 y.o. I am in the vet university and science plan is recommended by companies, not vets!

Look into Innova and Canidae. I've fed my dogs both and they're of excellent quality. The main thing you need to look for is that the dog food does NOT contain fillers like corn.

I live in Canada and Nutro is definitely not the greatest thing here. Holistic Blend is the best stuff on the market here: www.holisticblend.com Also a Canadian brand (but FAR better) they ship worldwide. You can see on their website everything that goes into the food and what does not go into the food. It's organic food (nutro is not), all human grade free range meat, no fillers, no by-products, no chemical preservatives. Just good stuff :)

I'm not sure what is available where you live. Nutro is definitely not the highest quality available. Some excellent dog foods: Canidae All Life Stages Orijen (A canadian one, very high protein, no grain) Innova Evo Instinct Solid Gold These foods are all very good. Other options for you include raw feeding or home cooking. For home cooking advice and resources, I suggest joining the yahoo group called "The Possible Canine." This group has members around the world and is excellent for home cooking or even advice on quality kibbles. Some good website resources to help: www.dogfoodanalysis.com - this site rates foods according to their ingredients and practices of the company. the 5 and 6 star foods are all excellent. Whole Dog Journal: This is an ecellent journal and also puts out a yearly analysis of it's top dog foods. http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/ Good luck.

You don't say what this dog died of. A good dog food would have meat listed as the first ingredient on the label, not corn or meat by products. You need to head for a pet store, not grocery store, and start reading the labels. Another thing is to start looking at vaccinations. Most people still don't know the duration of immunity on vaccines as published in 1999 by Dr. Ron Schultz of Wisconsin University. http://svmweb.vetmed.wisc.edu/articles/68/5/39 Don't take your vets word for what vaccines and how often. Look it up for yourself. Here's a site that gives you lots of links to read http://www.critteradvocacy.org

Diamond. If its available there. I know the owners, they told me there to busy to advertise, and if they did, the consumor would wind up footing the bill.
